The West Penn Trail Triathlon will be a modified Sprint Distance
triathlon incorporating the unique features and attributes of the Conemaugh
River corridor and the West Penn Trail system. The sweet twist is that the swim
will be swapped out for a boat leg. Kayak or canoe …as long as it doesn't have a
motor, it's legal. All profits will be used for the betterment of our trail
network.

Keystone State Park in concert with the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation (PPFF), Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League, Pennsylvania Game Commission and many other organizations and individuals will 
be hosting the fourth annual Youth and Family Outdoor Show on May 5th, 2013 at Keystone State Park.
The event will run from 10am until 3pm at Pavilion #1 and is free for all to attend. This one day event
brought over 2000 children and their families to the park with approximately 300 prizes given away to children who attended the event.


 

 
 
The former Atlantic No. 40 one room schoolhouse, relocated in 1994 and renovated
on the Derry school district campus, will be the location of the 4th annual Day
of Remembrance on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.  This year the event will honor
Ned Cecchini and Mickey Shumaker, two Derry Area School District teachers who
died during their tenure.  Members of the Cecchini and Shumaker families will be
present along with the president of the Derry Area School Board, David Krinock. 
The Rev. John Emigh of the Derry United Methodist Church will offer an
invocation.   Music will be provided by the Grandview Elementary School Band,
Ms. Karen Kerin director. Following the services inside the school house newly
planted trees on the campus will be dedicated to the teachers’ memories.

    A.V. Germano Hall, formerly known as the Derry Community Center (100 W. Second Street - Derry) on
    April 20, 2013 from 9am to 3pm. The kitchen will also be open selling snacks & drinks.

     Keystone State Park’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place at the beach area
  • and is for children 12 years of age and younger from 10:30am until 11:30am.
  • Pre-registration is suggested to ensure ample eggs & goodies for all.

    For ages 2-10. Admission $3.00 per child. From 11am-2pm at the Derry Township Fairground.
    Activities include face painting, coloring contest, cookie decorating, petting zoo and egg hunt.  
    Pictures with the Easter Bunny will also be available for a small fee.
    Bunny Fest is sponsored by DARCee (Derry Area Revitalization Corporation) and the Derry Township Fair Queen Program.
     
     
    Derry FFA will feature auctioneer Dale Reed during its Fourth Annual Benefit Auction in the cafeteria of Derry Area High School on Wednesday, March 20th.  Doors open at 5pm with proceeds being used to help defray the cost of FFA field trips, student conferences and market animal showings at local fairs. Food will also be sold throughout the evening. Please contact the Derry Area Agriculture/Horticulture Complex at 724-694-1455 for more information about the auction or to donate items to be sold.
